September is National Library Card Sign-up Month and we’re celebrating here at the Library by forgiving late fees during the month of September!
Bring in your overdue items and we will waive all of the late fees that have accumulated on your card! (Sorry, this does not apply to charges for books and other items that are lost).
Beginning September 12 we will be expanding our evening hours and including Thursday mornings! On Mondays we will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. and on Thursdays we will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Come in and see us.
Books and Bridles: the Story of the Horse Back Librarians
During the Great Depression under the WPA, there was a little known program called the Packhorse Librarians. An education specialist from the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will discuss this extraordinary group of women whose mission was to deliver and distribute reading materials to the far-off corners of Appalachia. Crafts for Adults and Teens: Banned Books Keychains
What do The Giver, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and Twilight all have in common? They were all, at one point, banned somewhere in the United States! Virtual Adult Cardio Dance Classes – Bollywood & Bhangra

Crafty Adults: Autumn Harvest Baskets
Sara Mallach and Crafty Adults are back! This month, we will be making mini clay autumn harvest baskets! At home, participants will need paper towels, a work surface (a piece of white paper on your table will do!), a piece of foil to cook your clay, and an oven or toaster to bake the clay at 275 Fahrenheit. All other materials will be available for pickup at the Library after you register! This event will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. Sign up early, as space and supplies are limited. The Pit and the Pendulum with Alan Sklar
Join us for a virtual reading of the horror classic, The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allen Poe.
Published in 1842 and presented by voice over actor, Alan Skylar, this frightening tale takes place during the Spanish Inquisition and is not for the faint of heart!

The After-Dark Book Club will meet on Thursday, September 8 at 7:30pm to discuss Still Life by Sarah Winman and on Thursday, October 6 at 7:30 to discuss Violeta by Isabel Allende.
The 2nd-Friday Book Club will meet on Friday, September 9 at 10:30am to discuss The Five Wounds by Kirstin Valdez Quade and Friday, October 14th at 10:30am to discuss The Brooklyn Follies by Paul Auster.
Book Clubs are currently meeting both at the Library and on Zoom in a hybrid format. This is subject to change. Please check our website for updates.

Free Covid Test Kits Courtesy of Westchester County
Westchester County has provided the Pelham Library with free Covid-19 home-testing kits for distribution to our community. Residents may pick up kits during library hours while supplies last. Each box contains two nasal-swab antigen tests. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has extended the expiration date for these kits to January, 24, 2023.
K-Day is an annual ritual when Pelham children entering kindergarten can get their first library cards. We will have face painting, a balloon artist, snacks and even goodie bags.
To save time please, pre-register for your child’s library card. Click on this link to fill out the form so that the card will be ready as soon as you arrive. Parent/guardians must bring a photo ID and proof of Pelham residency to pick up cards the day of the event.

Tween Craft: Hand-made Tote Bags
Grab your favorite old t-shirt and we’ll help you upcycle it into a tote bag that’s perfect for carrying your books to and from the Library! This in-person program is sure to be popular and pre-registration is required. Click here to learn more about the program and how to register.
Stories and Songs to Start the Jewish New Year
Celebrate and learn about Rosh Hashanah with stories, songs, and activities for the new year! This drop-in program is for kids in PreK-3rd grade, but the whole family is welcome. Open to all, and a great place to meet neighbors and form friendships. This event will take place on the Library lawn, and will move indoors in case of inclement weather. You may wish to bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs.
Our sewing classes with Solange Bitol Hansen have been super popular! We have one space left in the September 15 class. The other classes are currently full, but we sometimes have cancellations, so please let us know if you would like to join the waitlist. Join us for our popular storytime for infants and toddlers outside on our front lawn. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented… plus we have a lot of fun! Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. In case of rain or temperatures above 90°, the event will be canceled. Please call the Library that morning to confirm.
